Capitol Reef

Yesterday we did a quick tour of the scenic road on Capitol Reef and stretched our legs, climbed into caverns and listened to our echos on the Grand Wash Trail in the park. I know we'll keep saying this but everything is so huge, it was pretty spectacular to see. We then took the scenic drive (Route 12) through the Grand staircase, to Bryce... what a difference in scenery!- Hot, red rocks, to snow, aspens and pines in cool tmeps to grey and white mountains and now back to orange and green! PS: Unfortunately we forgot the card for our good camera so we'll upload some phone later!

The Grand Wash was beautiful and full of interesting shapes from the rocks. it was really fun to explore the little caves and landscapes. The mountains are huge- they almost blocked out the sun! I've NEVER felt so small! It was amazing to see how nature could still live in such a hot and dry place yet we still saw plants and lizards living in the rocks.

It's so cool how you could just climb the rocks with no hands- the rock just sticks to your feet like

you're Spiderman! The flowers are incredible- in the morning they look like they just bloomed and then if you come back in the afternoon, you'll see the flowers wilted to a different color. One of my favorite flowers I saw was a yellow one that smelled like sour lemons with a little honey. (Note from T: we'll have to look that up :) ) Utah is full of great flowers and amazing rock shapes.

Capitol Reef was gorgeous, a lot larger than expected. I have a feeling that we have not reserved enough time to see all the beauty in these National Parks! The scenic ride over from Capitol Reef to Bryce was amazing to see the stark differences in the environment when we came over the mountain. At the top there was plenty of snow and deer- it reminded me of Vermont, but on a much larger scale. Looking forward to seeing more!
